Authentic Norwegian porridge—the easy way!
Recipe submitted by Ann Sorum, from Fjordland lodge 1-508 in Brookings, SD.
4 cups milk (2% or whole)
1 cup butter
1/2 cup flour
1/4-1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
Microwave the milk in a microwavable safe bowl until scalded. Melt butter in a separate bowl. Once melted, slowly stir in flour with a whisk until smooth. Then, heat mixture for one minute in microwave until bubbly. Next, stir flour and butter mixture into hot milk until smooth (you may need to add up to 1/2 cup more flour to make it thick). Microwave for two minutes then stir. Microwave for another two minutes then stir (repeat as needed until thickened). Add sugar and salt and microwave for 30 seconds. Enjoy!
